Mohs Surgery/Skin Cancer

Mohs Surgery is the most advanced and effective treatment for skin cancer available today. Dr. Herne completed an additional year of fellowship training in Mohs Surgery for her three year dermatology residency. With the Mohs technique, the physician is able to identify and remove tumors one layer at a time, preserving normal surrounding tissue in the process.

Because the Mohs process traces skin cancer to its roots, it offers the highest chance (99%) of complete tumor removal. This is especially important in areas such as the face, fingers, or genitals, where it is important to preserve healthy tissue (for maximal functional and cosmetic result) or for cancers that have recurred. It is also appropriate for large or rapidly growing tumors or cancers where margins are indistinct. Mohs surgery for skin cancer removal is performed in the office under local anesthesia which is often more cost effective than other treatment methods.
